BEACH CLEANUP PROJECT

Since 2020 when we officially registered and started our first activities, immediately in March, 2020 we organised a massive beach cleanup at Selander bridge, Dar es salaam, Tanzania. We collected 200 bags of waste and more than 780 people showed up during the cleanup and we cleaned more than a 500 metre stretch of the beach. This was big start of our organisation and it kept inspirational in our vision of our activities, now we are in 2022, we have collected more than 366476 kg of waste from the beach and championed for plastic recycling and 187053 kg of plastic recycled and we reached and mobilised more than 45000 people through our beach cleanup activities. Environmental Conservation Community of Tanzania (ECCT) focuses on grassroot levels of the community to address the issue of environmental pollution as a major global crisis and advocating for a solution towards sustainable environmental conservation actions.

Overall beach cleanup project goal:

To promote protections and conservation of the world’s ocean and showing the essence of engaging grassroot local community in environmental conservation activities. This is key and important to reduce beach litter in general and promote long-term behaviour change which will contribute to adapting and mitigating climate change impacts.
